A Step towards Disability-Inclusive and Gender-Sensitive Community Engagement

The Erudite Women’s Empowerment Foundation (EWEF) participated in a three-day capacity building workshop from Thursday, 25th   September to Saturday,  27th September,2025.

The workshop facilitated by ABAK Foundation, aimed at strengthening EWEF’s institutional capacity for disability-inclusive, gender-sensitive, and climate change–responsive community engagement and advocacy. The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including EWEF staff, board members, volunteer groups, persons with disabilities, and girl-child coordinators from selected schools.

Key Takeaways

The workshop focused on deepening participants’ understanding of disability inclusion, climate change, and gender mainstreaming. Key learnings included:

Disability Inclusion: The need for intentional integration into organizational structures, policies, and community programs to ensure no group is left behind.

Climate Change Advocacy: The importance of linking advocacy to practical, community-based actions that resonate with local realities.

Gender Mainstreaming: The requirement for continuous commitment, tools, and monitoring to transform organizational culture and programming  to be more gender sensitive.

Action Plan and Opportunities

The workshop culminated in the development of an action plan, which will guide future initiatives. Opportunities arising from the workshop include:

Strengthened Partnership: Continued technical support from ABAK Foundation on disability inclusion, climate change, and gender mainstreaming.

Guiding Framework: The compiled action plan will serve as a guiding framework for future programming and advocacy.

Networking Opportunities: Stronger inter-organizational collaborations for community impact.

The capacity building workshop has created a stronger foundation for EWEF to influence policies and practices at the municipal level, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and equitable community.
